Meet Becky Day:
Meet our Marketing Assistant, Becky! Becky is soon to graduate from De Montfort University with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design and started her career at Micro-Fresh around a month to go! She’s crazy but that’s exactly why we employed her. She’s even done at sky dive, at 10, 000ft, just for fun!
1) What does a typical day at Micro-Fresh® look like for you?
I normally start my day by noting down all the things I have to do for the day. My tasks can vary from making Tik Tok’s, writing blogs, making graphics and creating and planning social media posts. Also, I’m definitely guilty of always thinking about food and what’s for lunch!
2) What is your favourite aspect of your role?
I love how my marketing role also involves aspects of graphic design, which is perfect because my degree is in graphic design but I have realised I might be better suited to a career in marketing as I have a passion for branding and advertising.
I also love that I have been given so much responsibility so quickly, it’s also quite scary. I’ve been warned in the past that working as a graphic designer for a large company can be difficult as you have no design creativity, and you are expected to produce exactly what is being asked. But I have had so much freedom, and although the responsibility is scary it has already taught me so much and I love being pushed to do stuff out of my comfort zone, I feel like it’s the only way you learn. I have learnt so much in the past month whilst working for Micro-Fresh®, sometimes I do question why I went to University and paid so much money but without going I would not have got the job.
3) Do you have a favourite Micro-Fresh® product?
So far I’ve loved every product I’ve been able to get my hands on. I’m always so impressed by the high quality of the scented products. I was particularly impressed with the #beatthesweat campaign t-shirts I managed to grab for a Tik Tok video I was recording, and now I wear it all the time! I like my fitness and I don’t mind admitting I like to get a sweat on but my Micro-Fresh® t-shirt honestly has stayed so fresh! And it’s been my flat air freshener! Visitors always ask what air freshener we use, they’re shocked to find out it’s my t- shirt.
4) Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I would love to call myself an experienced graphic designer with experience in marketing. And to have full responsibility of the company social media, website, branding, marketing and any other graphic design related stuff. Even a little team of my own would be cool!
5 ) What is one thing that surprised you about working at Micro-Fresh®?
I was surprised that a global company was being run by such a small team! I thought there would be around 100 people.
6) What is your productivity trick at the workplace?
Lists! I love a list and I live my life by them. I prefer to write stuff down so I can see it rather than let the to-do’s stack up in my head. It also allows me to see my achievements and feel good about what I’ve done. Since working at Micro-Fresh® I have learnt how to work more efficiently, prioritising tasks and setting time restraints so the job gets done. And it’s really helped me in my last month of University, I’m nowhere near as stressed as I was compared to previous years. I now break down larger tasks into smaller ones so they seem smaller and easier to achieve, I’ve also gained more confidence.
7 ) What is the biggest preconception people have of you in your workplace?
I think people presume I know what I’m doing, and I do a lot of the time, but not always! I’m just learning to say yes to things and try my best, and usually it pays off! I don’t just want to be good at my job, I want to be great at it, and Micro-Fresh® is pushing me to do that, giving me amazing opportunities to go further with my career.
Little more personal
8) Do you enjoy any hobbies outside of work?
As I mentioned before I like fitness, before the pandemic I’d often go the gym to de-stress but once COVID hit I soon started doing home-workouts, I tried running but it never really worked for me, I can never breathe! Recently I haven’t been doing as much as the end of Uni is getting closer and closer. But I’ve promised myself that once I have finished my degree, I’m going to get back into the gym hopefully 4 or 5 times a week.
I also would love to play sports, maybe join a local team or just play casually with friends. It’s something I regret I didn’t do during Uni so I have to do it now.
I also love cooking and eating! Spending time with friends and family. Just having fun really, alcohol also helps.
9) What is your favourite thing about working at Micro-Fresh®?
Like I said before I had my doubts about working for a global company but everyone was so friendly. Everyone treats each other the same and has respect for each other.
I love our tea breaks, we have a little chat and laugh a lot. It’s so nice to be around people who also love their job and care about the company.
10) What’s your favourite TV show—the one you’re always watching on repeat?
I don’t usually watch shows on repeat, but I do have some favourites. And they’re all so different. I love a drama, right night now I’m binge-watching Line of Duty, I also love shows that are an easy watch like Made in Chelsea, Love Island, Rue Paul, oh and Gogglebox, that’s where I usually find TV and film suggestions and updates on the news! I’m so useless at keeping up with current affairs. Good job I’m a Graphic Designer.
11) If you could snap your fingers and be an expert in something what would it be?
I would say my job but where would the fun in that be. So probably cooking, I love cooking for others, and it would be awesome to be able to cook dishes from around the world, although I know I ‘d never be better than my parents.
12) If you could write a book about your life what would it be called?
I feel like I have so many sides to my personality, so something relating to that. The girl with a thousand faces? A thousand is an exaggeration but it sounds cool.
13) What is one thing you’re trying to make a habit?
Push myself. Take every opportunity. And always say yes.
14) What is your favourite film?
See I’m a really indecisive person, and really struggle with these questions. I can enjoy a rom-com as much as a psychological. I’m not great with musicals though. I normally choose a film based on my mood but I’m also happy to watch most things.
15) What would be your go to karaoke song?
Aha I would never do karaoke unless I was very drunk but I’m usually screaming Oasis at the end of a night. Wonderwall. Champagne Supernova. And Live Forever. I can’t resist but sing along.
16) If you had to swap places with someone for the day who would it be?
Ooh that’s a difficult one. I would say someone living in a third world country so they could experience my life but If I’m feeling selfish someone who has so much money they can travel anywhere they like, like Kylie Jenner but without the fame.
17) What’s the top destination on your must-visit list?
Also a difficult question. I want to travel to as many countries as possible. Somewhere at the top of my list is probably Vietnam, the culture, the history the beautiful coastline and islands are a must.
18) Where’s your favourite place to eat?
Honestly possibly the worst question to ask me, I love dining out but mum and dad’s cooking is undefeated.
